Monique Liliensiek

This artist works in two separate genres of picture making - those that literally move and those that move us. Her Work as photographer is especially understandable when we consider the nature of her film work.

Monique´s career in TV film production is one concentrated on the strength of storytelling, working with many ambiguous realities in order to create entertainment. Filming is by definition an endless wave of nano second images so that the micro changes blur together to give us most importantly the illusion of movement - moving pictures to convince us it is "real". One image blurs into another, with sound effects, music and dialogue a big part of the sensory impact. An ever-changing patchwork team work together to produce on budget, on time, the product reality.

Her intention as a photographer, and perhaps the main motivation, is to reduce her work into to a single nano second image, seen and created with one voice, one pair of eyes, hers. A storytelling of total reduction, in silence. A synthesis of the many moments leading up to and after this one nano second. There is not distraction other than the one visual plane, the viewer is fired into concentration, must translate into a privat language the reveal. It is a singularly distilled, quiet and clear reality, left open to discovery. Her best works: truly moving.
